All of the Lead garden features on our site, are newly cast by British craftsmen. As the casts are turned out of the mould, the new lead is bright and shiny and would stand out like a sore thumb in any garden. This is why each piece is chemically patinated, to produce a layer of oxide on the surface, only normally seen after a great length of time. This ensures that each piece looks aged and perfectly at home in your garden. Lead Planters Unlike some other materials used in the garden, lead is unaffected by frost. Pots and planters won't crack, the surface will stay totally intact whatever the weather. You may wish to raise planters off the ground a little, but this is only to assist drainage and isn't essential. | Mounting Lead Plaques & Wall Features The wall mounted lead fountains and lead plaques, will arrive with either a hanging bracket, or pre-drilled to allow fixing to a wall with screws. Lead is obviously a very heavy material and care should be taken when choosing the correct fixings for the job. This will depend on two things; the first being the weight of the object and the second is the material which it is being fixed to. Some of the smaller plaques are under 1kg and so would be fine with just one No.8 screw, of sufficient length to fix it securely. The heavier items, some of which are in excess of 25Kg will need larger, longer screws to fix securely. When choosing your fixings, make sure not only are they the correct size, but we also recommend they are made from either stainless steel, or solid brass. Any plain steel or zinc plated screws will soon corrode and leave a heavy object unsafe. |
